Tom Gillespie has a list of “quirks” from newspapers he has worked for or known over the years. Most of those aren’t quirks. They’re stupidity, like the one that had the rule to cut every person not actually quoted in the story.

The best quote from announcers at the Women’s World Cup may have come from the ESPN Radio team late in regulation (imagine your best British/Scottish accents as you read this - it really does add to the mirth): They’re throwing everything at the Japanese goal but the kitchen sink. Unfortunately, turns out the U.S. women could have used the sink, too.
